Don't you think...

...that the reason they have you go through that registration is because they want visibility on who's downloaded it? You can't get that with Torrents.

Actually, technically you can get it with private access to the torrent files and mandatory torrent trackers, but I don't think the IBM distribution folks are prepared to set that kind of thing up. Mostly because those are the default models for all the bad things people download via BT.
